You just were on a dream, were you on a boat? Underground? In the sky? Both? Someone was activating a lever which made something happen that shouldn't have.
However, you're waking up, more or less. You're in between worlds, where you can control what happens, as you would on a lucid dream, and yet you see the waking world. You can actually glimpse your room as your eyes open.
For some reason, you decide to show symbols on your vision. It feels as if you're controlling them, but maybe it's not you. Maybe you're someone else, just for a brief second, only to show yourself these symbols, only to forget who you were when you finish waking up.
Whoever it is, these glyphs seem alien. Like a flip clock, each one keeps changing. You go "controlling" the dream, but somewhere along the line you lose control. Now, you can only see it.
An image is revealed to you. The background of your room loses focus as the picture of a checkerboard pattern slowly drags itself into your total vision. The pattern has a slight distortion near the upper-right corner.
The sensation of grandiosity of this revelation cannot be put into words. It's as if the secrets of the universe were being put into your full grasp. If you could only make sense of it now, perhaps you'd know everything.
But you can't. The only thing you can do now is recreate the thing you saw, which you do.
